We kindly request you to complete our High Holidays seat inquiry form as we assess our seating needs and confirm Minyanim.
Rosh Hashana 5785 (2024)
Seating:
-
Our modest charge for Rosh Hashana seating is $125 per person, capped at $360 per family. Please click here to purchase seats. Please select “Rosh Hashana Seating” and enter the names of all planned participants.
-
If you are an immediate family member in a house that has contributed our minimum suggested dues of $1,800 per season, your Rosh Hashana seats are guaranteed and included.
Location:
Rosh Hashana services will once again be held at the Ocean Beach Community House, located on the north (marina) side of Bay View Walk between Cottage Walk and Bungalow Walk.
Please note that most synagogues rely on high holiday campaigns to help fund their operations and the Fire Island Minyan (FIM) sanctuary is generally able to accommodate the needs of current FIM dues-paying members. Organizing Rosh Hashanah in Fire Island is a huge undertaking both financially and physically. Relocating services from the FIM to the Ocean Beach Community House for Rosh Hashanah typically becomes the responsibility of 5 or 6 members. Before the holiday, it requires relocation of the Sifrei Torah, Machzorim, Seforim, Taleseim, Aron Hakodesh, cleaning and setting up the Community house, arranging a Bima and building of a Mechitza. Following the holiday we need to disassemble, collect and pack and return the FIM belongings (in the dark), restore the Community House and FIM, and only then, are we in a position to join our families to travel back to the mainland. It’s no easy task.
If you are able to assist with the setup and breakdown of the Community House, please volunteer here.
In addition to relocating to provide additional seating to all guests and visitors, we have hired a professional Baal Tefilah and Baal Tokeiah to lead services and provide a true Rosh Hashana experience right here on Fire Island. This is a costly endeavor.
Thank you for your cooperation. Wishing all a happy and healthy new year. Chtiva v’Chatima l’Tova.
